The attempt to integrate two important spheres (bank risk management and corporate governance) resulted in the research “Ownership Structure and Bank Risk Profile: Comparative Study from the Emerging Market” conducted by Dmitriy Riabichenko (PhD Researcher, member of Virtus Global Center for Corporate Governance).

The research is to identify the influence of ownership structure on bank risk profile in Ukraine over the post-crisis period (2008-2014). We consider different categories of shareholders, a breakdown specific to our dataset. Using Kohonen maps for different groups of banks, we find that ownership structure is significant in explaining risk differences. These results are consistent with the idea that majority shareholders in Ukraine pursue political goals. This research is prepared to be presented at the conference in Paris (May 21, 2015).
