Abstract

Although research on employee retention has grown, the link between human resources management (HRM) practices and retention remains underexplored (Xing et al., 2025; Al-Ayed, 2025). Retaining skilled employees is critical in knowledge-intensive sectors, where talent drives innovation, adaptability, and competitive advantage. Organizations that fail to address retention risk lose high-potential employees, undermining strategic agility and long-term performance. Internal mobility is often studied as a tool for reallocating high performers, yet from a knowledge-based perspective, it also can facilitate the circulation of tacit knowledge, the recombination of perspectives, and the development of collective capabilities, enhancing organizational learning and resilience. This study examines the role of internal mobility in employee retention through a case study of IBM's SkillsFirst human resources (HR) model. By analyzing qualitative employee perspectives, the research identifies organizational conditions and mechanisms through which internal mobility supports retention, while acknowledging contextual factors and potential limitations. Findings aim to provide both theoretical insights for adaptive HRM and practical guidance for organizations seeking to strengthen employee commitment and career development pathways.

Abstract

The abstracts published in the conference proceedings book Corporate Governance: Scholarly Research and Practice present a diverse array of international research topics, divided into four sessions: board of directors' practices, sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), accounting and auditing, and general issues of corporate governance. More specifically, modern corporate governance models focus on aspects such as: adaptive corporate governance, board diversity and corporate performance, artificial intelligence (AI) and corporate governance in the digital age, governance mechanisms for climate change and environmental issues, and CSR from an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspective. Through these models, companies seek to achieve the right balance between governance, strategy, long-term value creation, responsibility towards shareholders, risk management, including sociopolitical hazards, and the assumption of ethical obligations towards key stakeholders. This approach goes beyond simple compliance with internal and external rules and principles.

Abstract

In order to achieve their long-term goals, managers in the business world must respond effectively to various challenges. In this context, a positive correlation between perseverance and positive leadership can be observed. However, excessive emphasis and rigidity regarding set goals can hinder their achievement, potentially related to perfectionism. Our paper is the first empirical study focused on the media, information, and telecommunications sector to analyze the relationship between positive leadership and perseverance, with perfectionism considered as a moderating variable. In addition, the Triarchic Model of Grit Scale (TMGS) by Datu et al. (2017) is examined for the first time in Germany. Our results show that perseverance can increase positive leadership qualities, which a manager's perfectionism can partially moderate. For Germany, it can also be noted that the TMGS is insufficient as an explanatory model, and that we propose a five-factor model of perseverance in our individualistic culture instead. We demonstrate the importance of targeted training opportunities for managers to improve their positive leadership qualities. Limitations of our study include, in particular, the limited sample size and a strong industrial bias in the area of media, information, and telecommunications.

Abstract

The growing emphasis on stakeholder governance has fundamentally reshaped the corporate governance debate, challenging the traditional focus on shareholder primacy. The 2019 Business Roundtable (BRT) Statement marked a pivotal turn by committing signatory firms to consider the interests of all stakeholders. Despite this public pledge, substantial doubts remain about the depth and sincerity of corporate adoption (Bebchuk & Tallarita, 2020). This study assesses whether the 39 publicly listed companies that endorsed the BRT Statement between 2019 and 2024 have implemented concrete governance reforms. Through an empirical analysis of each firm's published governance guidelines, examining board composition, committee charters, and reporting disclosures, we track changes over a five-year period. Our results reveal a significant divergence between proclaimed intentions and actual practice: most firms continue to anchor their governance structures in shareholder value, while only a minority exhibit genuine steps toward embedding stakeholder interests. Future research should integrate quantitative data on corporate behavior and stakeholder outcomes to provide a more comprehensive evaluation. Overall, this paper offers an updated empirical appraisal of whether leading BRT signatories have translated stakeholderism from aspirational rhetoric into governance reality.

Abstract

The present study investigated the predictive capacity of perceived organizational support (POS) and self-efficacy (SE) regarding work engagement (WE). A quantitative survey was conducted utilizing a self-report questionnaire administered to a sample of 180 Greek employees from both the private and public sectors. Results indicated statistically significant positive correlations between POS and WE, and between SE and WE. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that both POS and SE were significant positive predictors of WE, with the overall model explaining 13.5 percent of the variance in WE. Furthermore, analyses of mean differences demonstrated that employees in managerial positions reported significantly higher levels of WE compared to those in non-managerial positions (Kahn, 1990; Schaufeli et al., 2006; Sharma & Rajput, 2021). Post-hoc comparisons also showed that married employees exhibited significantly higher WE than single employees (Sharma & Rajput, 2021). These findings are discussed in relation to existing literature, and practical implications for cultivating WE in the workplace are proposed. The research contributes to the understanding of factors influencing WE among Greek employees and offers tangible suggestions for employers.

1. Scope and Purpose

This statement outlines the ethical use, disclosure, and oversight of Generative AI (GenAI) in the submission, peer review, and editorial processes of this journal. It aligns with the principles and best practices established by leading organizations in academic publishing, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

2. Definition

Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence technologies capable of producing text, images, or other content in response to user inputs. Tools such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, and similar models fall under this category.

3. Principles and Standards

3.1. Ethical Use (COPE Guidelines)

Authors, reviewers, and editors must adhere to. GenAI may assist in minor aspects of the publishing process (e.g., language editing) but must not replace human intellectual contributions or create fabricated content.

3.2. Transparency

Authors are required to disclose the use of GenAI in their manuscripts. Disclosure must explicitly state which tools were used and for what purposes.

3.3. Authorship and Accountability

GenAI tools cannot be credited as authors, as they do not meet authorship criteria: substantial intellectual contribution, drafting or revising the work, and accountability for content. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and ethical compliance of their submissions, even if AI tools were used.

3.4. Peer Review Integrity

Peer reviewers using GenAI tools must disclose such use to the editorial board; AI tools may provide suggestions or summaries but cannot replace critical analysis or professional judgment required for peer review.

4. Acceptable Uses of Generative AI

Language Refinement: Authors may use GenAI for grammar correction, syntax improvements, or stylistic edits; Data Representation: AI-generated charts or images are acceptable if the data source is clearly cited and visualizations are verified; Idea Generation: AI tools can assist in brainstorming or exploring research frameworks but should not contribute original hypotheses or conclusions.

5. Prohibited Uses of Generative AI

Fabrication or Manipulation: AI must not be used to generate false data, references, or conclusions. Plagiarism: Using AI-generated content without proper attribution is a violation of ethical publishing standards. Misrepresentation: Authors must not misrepresent AI-generated work as their own intellectual contribution.

6. Disclosure Requirements

All authors must provide a clear disclosure statement regarding the use of GenAI if they used it in writing the paper. The statement should include the name(s) of the tool(s) used; specific tasks where the tool was applied (e.g., language editing, visualization).

Example Disclosure Statement: "Generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, were used for language editing and improving the clarity of the manuscript. All intellectual content, research design, and data analysis were conducted solely by the authors."

7. Editorial Oversight

Editors will evaluate disclosed AI use during the review process to ensure it complies with this policy. Manuscripts suspected of undisclosed AI-generated content may undergo further scrutiny, including plagiarism detection tools or re-submission requests.

8. Consequences of Misuse

In alignment with COPE's misconduct policies, violations of this policy may result in: Rejection of the manuscript; Retraction of published articles if ethical breaches are discovered post-publication; Notification to institutions, funders, or other stakeholders, where appropriate.

Abstract

Nowadays, accounting has evolved to incorporate diverse perspectives in reporting, fostering democracy and sustainability (Brown & Dillard, 2015a, 2015b; Sorola, 2022). This has led to a growing interest in dialogic reporting tools, which allow for the representation of divergent voices (Grossi et al., 2021). Integrated popular reporting (IPR) is a social accounting tool that facilitates an unbiased representation of different stakeholder opinions. However, its capacity to measure public value creation or destruction remains underexplored (Cohen & Karatzimas, 2015; Biondi & Bracci, 2018). This study adopts a single case study approach to evaluate the impact of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 held in the city of Turin. By integrating the social impact assessment (SIA) framework and the theory of change (ToC), the analysis examines how IPR can enhance impact representation (Biancone et al., 2022). Findings reveal a debate among mixed opinions, with positive sentiments related to the artists and event support, but also concerns about environmental impact and price increases. This study contributes to the accounting research field by demonstrating how dialogic accounting practices, combined with impact assessment methodologies, enhance transparency and accountability. It also provides practical implications to assess and communicate the social and economic outcomes of large-scale events (Steccolini, 2019).

Abstract

Short video platforms are growing rapidly, and users often use them to get an overview before deciding. Short videos are a unique tool for tourist marketing because of the growing amount of content on tourism, which is believed to significantly impact information dissemination and travel decision-making (Li & Hayes, 2024). Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to examine the factors that influence Generation Z's impulsive travel decisions by watching short videos. 280 individuals with prior experience with brief videos were recruited using judgmental sampling for data collection. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data. The results emphasize the importance of social factors and the quality of brief videos in influencing impulsive travel behaviors through affective reactions. On the one hand, the study results are expected to assist tourism businesses in developing strategies for improving the quality of their short videos to capture the attention of travelers. On the other hand, this discovery augments the comprehension of travelers' behavior by examining the roles of social factors, affective reactions, impulsive travel, and the quality of brief videos.

Abstract

Income inequality is one of the key indicators used to measure social and economic disparities (among households and businesses) in a given area. This study analyzes the impact of the local banking system on income inequality in the municipalities of an Italian region situated in the center-north of the country, a dynamic and economically prosperous area. To this end, it employs a dynamic panel data model, estimated using the system generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator, to address the issue of endogeneity and ensure unbiased inferences. The investigated region represents a significant case study, as its banking system has undergone profound changes. The results of this analysis, based on municipal-level data, suggest that an increase in credit provision tends to reduce income inequality, while the accumulation of wealth in the form of deposits exacerbates it. Furthermore, the physical presence of credit cooperative banks (CCBs) and their relationship lending approach emerge as key factors in mitigating inequality. The closure of bank branches, in fact, could heighten social disparities. In terms of economic policies, the study concludes that access to credit, along with a banking system based on a relationship-based model such as that of the CCBs, is effective in promoting inclusive territorial development.

Abstract

This scoping review examines the relationships between various leadership styles, employee voice behavior, and job satisfaction by systematically synthesizing existing quantitative studies. Utilizing preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines process and Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) analytical framework, Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), Web of Science (WoS), JSTOR, and Scopus databases were systematically searched for relevant research up to October 2024. Extensive research resulted in the inclusion of 10 eligible scientific works. The analysis integrates theoretical frameworks such as resource conservation and social exchange theories, revealing that ethical and transformational leadership significantly influence employee voice and job satisfaction. These effects are mediated by employee behavior and satisfaction and moderated by cultural context and individual performance (Ilyas et al., 2021; Detert & Burris, 2007). Findings highlight the critical role of contextual and individual factors in the effectiveness of leadership practices, advocating for tailored leadership approaches that consider cultural specificities and employee resources. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies and more diverse samples to enhance the generalizability of these insights.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to increase the awareness of educators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and managers in business and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that the key elements for outstanding corporate responsible investment are brand building with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment (UN PRI), incorporate PRI policy into corporations, and disclosure of ESG issues. To critically identify their relationship to the topic, by using NVivo, a text search was performed for the mentioned keywords. This is managerially relevant to organizations which are working on SDGs, ESG and PRI for corporate brand building. Based on the quantitative analysis of environmental materials on school uniforms of ESG School HK in Hong Kong and the focus group interviews in July 2024 and October 2024, it is further illustrated that technology may be applied for responsible and transparent product/service workflow for responsible investment. A validation model is needed to link up with the findings of this paper for improving organizational performance and brand building.

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between board diversity and the performance of real estate investment trusts (REITs) listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) from 2013 to 2021. Focusing on racial, gender, and education diversity, the study analyses a sample of 30 REITs, representing 81 percent of the sector. The study employs fixed-effects models to show that racial diversity positively impacts funds from operations per share (FFO P/S) and earnings per share (EPS), suggesting that diverse boards enhance operational and earnings efficiencies. However, gender diversity has a significant negative effect on FFO P/S, indicating potential challenges in achieving operational efficiency. Education diversity shows minimal influence across all measures. These findings imply that racial diversity contributes positively to REIT performance, while the impact of gender diversity is more complex, and education diversity appears less significant. The study contributes to corporate governance literature by providing empirical evidence of board diversity's impact within JSE-listed REITs. It recommends targeted strategies to enhance racial diversity and address the operational challenges associated with gender diversity, while suggesting a balanced approach to board composition, considering practical experience alongside educational backgrounds.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of each component within corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure and CSR expenditure on the banks' financial performance. The research collected data from listed banks from 2013 to 2022 to apply the generalized least squares (GLS) regression analysis method. The findings indicate that environmental responsibility disclosure and government responsibility expenditure positively impact corporate finances. Meanwhile, community responsibility disclosure and expenditure reduce financial efficiency. Employee responsibility disclosure and expenditure do not affect the financial situation. The study emphasizes the importance of environmental responsibility disclosure and recommends that banks fully comply with tax obligations which is a government responsibility expenditure. Banks should also consider investing and disclosing information about community responsibility as a long-term obligation rather than a short-term financial strategy. Government agencies and state banks are advised to develop social responsibility standards based on international standards such as ISO 26000 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), and Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) for the banking industry.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the key elements of transformative leadership skills of women servants to accelerate and impact activities related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Content analysis and qualitative interviews with case research on applying the latest technology with distributed trust networks to provide traceability in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and sports event management in Hong Kong for primary and secondary school students were conducted in April–July 2024. The attributes of transformative leadership of women servants with innovative ways to track students' sports competition are seldom studied for improving the quality services of sports and STEM service providers in the post-COVID-19 periods. According to the results, it is expected to have an ongoing study on innovative and sustainable ways of applying transformative leadership of women servant leadership with non-fungible tokens (NFT) and blockchain application in SDGs via strengthening the partnership of academia, researchers, business, and industry with SDGs and NFT community projects for sustainable development (SD).

Abstract

There is an emphasis on corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, but research on how and where to communicate CSR is lacking. To investigate how and where to communicate CSR, an online survey instrument was developed to sample a total of 100 consumer panel members. A total of 31 items were included to measure the public's general expectations for CSR communication. Findings reveal that CSR needs to be communicated to internal stakeholders before external stakeholders and ensure employee commitment to the company's CSR initiatives. In communicating within the workplace, the development of human resources is most significant. In terms of corporate governance practices, financial reporting is the most significant. Likewise, reports on the community reveal mobilization of resources for social investment is the most significant. Whereas communication on environmental education activities is the most significant in CSR communication of the environment. In addressing the second objective, findings reveal that companies should play a role in society beyond economic benefit generation. The results show that society's concern is important in deciding where to communicate CSR. The study suggests that knowing where and how to communicate CSR that will appeal to the public will significantly affect the image and reputation of the company.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to propose the use of suppliers, inputs, processes, outputs, and customers (SIPOC) of Six Sigma for responsible programme management for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) acceleration. A content analysis with literature has been conducted to explore the key elements of resilience for reskilling and upskilling via implementing United Nations SDGs (UNSDGs), and design thinking supported by a literature search. Qualitative interviews with industry practitioners in the creative art-related industries are followed to envision and empower programme management skills. It is recommended educators, trainers, and programme managers design project-based activities with the SIPOC concept for programme success. This is managerially relevant to the creative art industry development. However, validation of the research findings needs further study.

Abstract

The escalating significance of human resource management (HRM) in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is underscored through a systematic review and bibliometric analysis of 144 documents from the Scopus database. This paper delineates the evolution of HRM practices within SMEs, identifying four core themes that are increasingly prevalent in scholarly publications. The study leverages content analysis, bibliometrics, and network analysis to map the intellectual structure of the field, providing a comprehensive overview of current trends and future directions. It highlights the necessity of integrating HRM practices as strategic organizational assets and emphasizes their role in enhancing efficiency across global SME networks (Davies, 2017). The growing body of literature suggests a shift towards recognizing the strategic importance of HRM in SMEs, with potential implications for enhancing organizational effectiveness in contemporary and future business environments. This research contributes to the theoretical discourse by testing various HRM theories in the SME context, offering a foundational perspective for understanding HRM challenges and practices in SMEs worldwide.

Abstract

Higher education institutions (HEIs) encountered an unanticipated and unprepared digital transformation because of COVID-19, which obliged most services, including teaching, learning, and working, to shift from physical to digital and virtual platforms. Digital transformation among employees provided an opportunity for technological upgrades and challenged technological competence and adaptability among employees to enable transitions between physical and virtual platforms. As a result, this paper through the technology acceptance model (TAM) reflects on factors that influence successful transformation of technological adoption among support staff members in a university of technology (UOT). This paper argues that the use of TAM to predict staff members' attitudes toward adopting new technology can assist HEIs in decision-making regarding technology selection. Using descriptive research design and non-probability sampling method, data was collected from 177 support staff members from different departments. The findings of the study, which emanated from surveys, established that employees' digital skills need improvement; lack of digital infrastructure funding; poor planning and unclear forms of communication proved to be a recipe for failure to implement a successful digital shift and in creating acceptance digital user behaviour among the employees.

Abstract

This study highlights gender-based disparities in perceived barriers to female career advancement in decision-making. Despite more women entering the workforce, their leadership representation remains low, partly due to differing perceptions of barriers by gender (van't Foort-Diepeveen et al., 2021). Involving 236 executives and utilizing social identity and homosocial theories, the study employs a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and qualitative comments from voluntary respondents. The findings reveal that while both genders acknowledge corporate barriers, they interpret education, experience, and personal life barriers differently. Women often view these as interconnected with corporate challenges, reflecting broader systemic issues (Taparia & Lenka, 2022). The study also highlights the persistence of traditional male networks in corporations, which maintain existing leadership models and hinder change. This insight enhances our understanding of gender disparities in the workplace, particularly in Spanish-listed companies. Academically, it enriches gender studies and corporate leadership discourse by revealing the subtleties in barrier perception and their implications. Practically, it suggests that recognizing and addressing these differences can lead to more effective interventions to promote gender equality in leadership positions. This research urges a reevaluation of barrier perceptions and emphasizes the importance of inclusive strategies to bridge the gender gap in leadership.

Abstract

Job burnout is a state of physical and mental exhaustion that occurs as a result of long-term negative feelings that are developed at work and affect individuals of various professions (Penttinen et al., 2021; Dike et al., 2021). Given the growing interest in job burnout and the extensive body of literature dedicated to identifying its contributing factors, this research aims to systematically review empirical burnout research to identify and organize the myriad causes of burnout. The objective is to facilitate a more streamlined approach to its study and to enhance the ability to manage, control, and mitigate burnout symptoms, ultimately promoting and sustaining employees' mental health. Therefore, a systematic literature review of burnout articles published on the Web of Science (WoS) and American Psychological Association (APA) PsycNET databases over the last decade (2012–2022) was conducted. Thematic analysis was employed to identify, classify, and categorize the factors contributing to burnout. The research findings indicate that while the conventional perspective portrays burnout as a work-specific syndrome and workplace factors are often considered the primary indicators of burnout, the research findings suggest that burnout is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by various factors at the personal, job-related, organizational, and social life levels. The relationship between these factors and burnout can overlap, with some factors acting as protective mechanisms and others as risk factors. Understanding these factors can help in developing strategies and intervention mechanisms to prevent or mitigate burnout in the workplace, ultimately promoting and sustaining employees' mental health.

Abstract

Innovation management of educational institutions as agents of change and development of entrepreneurial competencies is a focus of attention entering the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) era in Indonesia because higher education is recognized as a locus for the development of innovation, science, technology, and art. The purpose of this article is to understand the role of educational institutions, especially Muhammadiyah University (UNISMUH) in Makassar, in managing innovation and developing entrepreneurship competencies as agents of change. The descriptive-qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach is applied in collecting data to be processed and analyzed using an interactive model. The results of the study found that creativity, basic values, and strategic value orientations of innovation and entrepreneurial competency development based on Muhammadiyah higher education institutions (HEIs) in Makassar through a knowledge management approach (KMA) have raised the image of HEI as agents of change and innovation in the local government context. The application of KMA through the process of knowledge creation in educational innovation and entrepreneurship programs is an integral part of the Independent Learning Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka — MBKM) program which is encouraged nationally.

Abstract

While earnings manipulation has a broad literature in the private sector, there is a lack of research on this topic in the public sector. This paper aims to explore the level of earnings management in Spanish provincial councils. The use of accrual accounting may be viewed negatively by stakeholders such as the central government, opposition parties, and citizens. The public choice theory highlights the conflicting interests of politicians seeking re-election and citizens aiming to maximize their welfare, leading to potential manipulation of earnings. Discretionary accruals are used as a proxy for earnings management in this study. Additionally, the impact of financial sustainability measures on earnings management is examined. The analysis covers the period from 2017 to 2020 and reveals how certain financial sustainability ratios and pre-election years can influence the extent of earnings manipulation. This paper contributes to the existing literature on earnings management in local governments by examining the connection between financial sustainability indicators and this behavior. Specifically, it focuses on the relationship between budget vulnerability and sustainability, and their influence on the magnitude of discretionary accruals.

Abstract

This study looked into the mediating effect of work-life balance on the relationship between financial well-being and intention to leave. Additionally, the possibility of job sector moderating was investigated. The millennial workforce from Philippine public and private organizations makes up the respondents. The study adopted a quantitative methodology. Respondents were given the adopted instrument, which was utilized to quantify the responses. Purposive sampling was used in the selection of the respondents. The results showed that there were notable relationships between work-life balance and financial well-being, as well as between work-life balance and turnover intention. The results were consistent with the findings of Kundnani and Mehta (2015) showing that stress caused due to financial obligations is negatively related to work-life balance. Also, financially unstable employees are more likely to seek new job opportunities. Moreover, work-life balance was found to partially mediate between financial well-being and turnover intention and is supported by the study of Lestari and Margaretha (2021). Nevertheless, it was discovered that the moderating influence of the employment sector on the correlations between the variables was not statistically significant. In light of the study's findings, conclusions were reached and suggestions for resolving the problems were made.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of corporate governance on firm performance within listed technology corporations in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) of China, particularly in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. It employs data from the Hang Seng TECH Index and the SME-ChiNext Tech 100 Index covering the period 2016 to 2022 to assess the influence of corporate governance on crucial financial performance metrics such as return on equity (ROE), return on assets (ROA), and Tobin's Q. Despite incorporating five control variables to account for extraneous factors, the analysis reveals no significant correlation between corporate governance practices and the operational or financial outcomes of these companies. Notably, the governance level is recorded at 47.2 percent, underscoring a unique regional governance context. This research enhances understanding of corporate governance's role in the technology sector, echoing the findings of Alzubi and Bani-Hani (2021) on capital structure and Ulfah et al. (2022) onboard structure and earnings management. The insights garnered are particularly valuable for policymakers and investors navigating the dynamic economic landscape of the GBA.

Abstract

In an economic crisis, entrepreneurial marketing (EM) offers a natural, albeit expensive, way to boost the competitiveness of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector (Majovski & Davitkovska, 2017). This paper investigates whether EM dimensions have a significant effect on the market performance of Zimbabwean SMEs in the small-scale retail sector. A quantitative research methodology was conducted in Chegutu, Mashonaland West province in Zimbabwe. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design that collected data from 260 owners/managers through self-administered, standardised questionnaires. Data were analysed using WarpPLS 7.0 software. The study ran a structural equation model (SEM) to determine the influence of opportunity vigilance, customer centricity, value creation and risk management on market performance. The study found that opportunity vigilance, risk management, customer centricity and value creation significantly contribute to the market performance of resource-constraint firms such as small-scale retailers. The study concludes that EM determines market performance in dynamic environments such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, the study found opportunity vigilance and value creation to have the most significant influence (β = 0.37 and β = 0.22, respectively) on market performance. Therefore, the study concludes that opportunity vigilance and value creation are the most important EM dimensions in small-scale retailers. Small-scale retailers must actively seek opportunities through continuous market sensing and orientation. Further studies could explore this topic in different contexts using actual market performance data and a large sample size.

Abstract

In the present era, leadership and organizational culture contribute significantly to innovative behaviour. The present paper predicts the impact of leadership on innovative behaviour directly and indirectly through organizational culture in Egypt's construction industry, targeting project managers. The researchers followed the domain researchers like Zheng et al. (2019), and Zhao and Sun (2024) to develop the conceptualization of the study. The researchers applied quantitative methods, where the data were collected using a survey questionnaire with a convenience sample technique. Finally, the study derived the results based on 336 valid cases. The results demonstrate a positive effect of transformational and transactional leadership on organizational culture and innovative behaviour. On the other hand, the organizational culture negatively affects innovative behaviour. Finally, the organizational culture mediates the connection between transformational, transactional leadership and innovative behaviour. The findings would navigate and mitigate challenges arising from the connection between organizational culture and innovative behaviour by establishing innovative capabilities platforms that contribute to an inclusive consideration of the intricate interconnections between leadership, organizational culture, and innovation in the construction sector. Finally, the study's findings would enrich the depth of the literature by adding more empirical evidence from a developing context.

Abstract

This study examines the intricate relationship between investment in research, development, and innovation (RDI) and a nation's gross domestic product (GDP), with a specific focus on understanding how technical and vocational education and training (TVET) performance moderates this association. Utilizing panel data analysis, the research investigates the direct and interactive effects of RDI expenditure and TVET performance on GDP across various national contexts. While the direct impact of RDI on GDP is not statistically significant, the findings illuminate a moderated relationship wherein TVET performance serves as the interaction coefficient. Notably, countries with improved TVET performance demonstrate a significant positive correlation between RDI expenditure and GDP, highlighting the pivotal role of TVET in enhancing the effectiveness of RDI investment for economic progress. This investigation contributes to a deeper understanding of the nuanced interplay among education, innovation, and economic growth, emphasizing the strategic importance of TVET in reinforcing the efficacy of RDI policies for fostering economic advancement. By shedding light on these dynamics, the study provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers aiming to design evidence-based strategies for sustainable economic development (Smith & Brown, 2020).

Abstract

This research identifies trends in artificial intelligence (AI) in auditing and fraud detection using a combination of two methods: a bibliometric and a systematic review of AI trends in auditing in fraud detection. This research develops a bibliometric analysis of 1,348 papers on “fraud”, “auditing”, and “artificial intelligence” from 1986 to 2022. The results provide a robust set of information for in-depth research on AI trends in auditing and security detection. They not only demonstrate that there is growing academic interest in the research topic of fraud but also show clear evidence that the words “fraud”, “crime”, and “fraud detection” were the most cited, generating a great impact in the literature and developing concern with the topic. Our analysis suggests that the application of AI allows for greater facilitation of procedures to combat fraud and irregularities in the field of criminal justice and fundamental rights. Most technological changes increase ethical motivations to deter fraud, and these changes will lead to a long-term decrease in the incidence of fraud (Karpoff, 2021). This research contributes to AI valuing in audit procedures to detect and prevent fraud and simultaneously mitigate it. It also contributes to the literature, highlighting trends in AI, auditing and fraud detection, thereby enabling the development of professional judgment on the topic and providing direction for future investigations.

Abstract

This research primarily focuses on assessing the impact of digital skills on the future career decisions of young rural laborers, a group typically at a disadvantage concerning skills and professional qualifications when compared to their urban counterparts. To conduct this study, a probit probability regression model was employed, and data was collected through a survey involving 398 young rural laborers from the Northern Midlands and Mountains region of Vietnam. The findings of this study unequivocally illustrate the multifaceted influence of specific digital skills on decisions related to self-employment. Digital operational skills and digital creative skills were found to be associated with the choice of formal, wage-earning employment, whereas digital social skills correlated with a higher likelihood of pursuing self-employment. This highlights the imperative need to establish specific and diverse policies to cater to the distinct requirements of various labor market segments. Furthermore, in light of the currently limited digital skill levels, laborers should place particular emphasis on enhancing their skill sets to ensure their ability to seek or maintain employment with competitive incomes or to prepare for entrepreneurial opportunities. It is equally important to scrutinize social safety policies designed for self-employed laborers to guarantee the sustainability of the self-employment model.

Abstract

Using social media via electronic devices and Internet connection has become a part of life in the current day. This is altering how individuals look for information to satisfy their requirements. These modifications affect marketing activities and styles. The marketing strategy becomes simpler, and product options adjust to client wants. Social media platforms provide network connectivity that allows organizations and consumers to participate in marketing and sales activities in online communities. Using social media leads to broad social bonds and builds an environment that can influence consumer engagement. Through social media networks, online stores increase product sales and have an impact on improving small and medium enterprises (SMEs) performance. However, some studies found that social media did not cause customers to return to shop at the same online store. Therefore, this study proposes using social media mediated by the value of social commerce services. We tested this research on 215 SMEs in Indonesia who conduct online promotions and sales using social media. The goal is to analyse the benefits of using social media and the intention to buy back at the same online store to improve the performance of SMEs. Statistical analysis is based on data collected through survey questionnaires using the partial least square (PLS) method to test hypotheses.

Abstract

Several empirical studies have evaluated financial inclusion (FI) at the national level globally. However, limited research exists on household-level FI in Northeast India using a standardized index. This study uses primary data collected from rural households in the Barak Valley region of Assam to assess the level of FI and identify its determinants. the Composite Financial Inclusion Index (CFII) is constructed using multiple dimensions like availability, usage, and quality as prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Binary variables are used to represent qualitative information for the construction of CFII and living standards. A logistic-transformed linear regression model is utilized to identify the key factors that drive FI among rural households. The study found that the level of FI among select rural households is low compared to the national average figure reported by RBI in 2022. The study further identifies income, education, standard of living, and profession as significant determinants of FI among rural households. However, demographic variables like religion have no impact on FI. Policymakers and regulators could use this finding to develop tailored policies. The limited number of household surveys conducted in a small geographical area of the region restricts the generalization of these findings.

Abstract

It is widely acknowledged that workplace incivility (WI) is a serious issue that negatively affects employee performance (EP). This study investigated whether psychological empowerment (PE) mediated the link between employees' task performance (TP) and co-worker incivility (CI). The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design, with a population of 307 employees of two ministries in Delta State, Nigeria. Using Yamane's (1973) formula, 186 was determined as the sample size. After a week, 145 copies of the questionnaires were fully completed and retrieved. Hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that while CI was positive and significantly related to PE (β = 0.561, p < 0.05), it was negative and significantly related to TP (β = -0.422, p < 0.05). PE was positive and significantly related to TP (β = 0.133, p < 0.05). Moreover, a partial mediating role for PE was observed in the relationship between TP and CI. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the Delta State Civil Service Commission should put in place policies that will mitigate the occurrence of WI as it adversely affects EP. In addition, employees should be empowered psychologically to enable them to manage the detrimental effects of WI.

Abstract

The study aims to apply the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) method to evaluate the priority of factors that constitute employee engagement with hotels. The theoretical review introduced and modeled five factors and 21 indicators. A pairwise comparison survey was designed and sent to experts, including university scientists, leaders of state management agencies in charge of tourism, and leaders of hotels. The research results show that the job characteristics factor is ranked as the first, the second factor is the working environment, the third factor is salary and welfare, the fourth factor is direct management, and the last ranking factor is the employee's personality. Twenty-one indicators belonging to five factors were ranked through Liou and Wang's (1992) method; the results showed that they ranked in the first three positions and had the most influence on hotel employee engagement as rated by experts, including recognizing employee efforts ranked first; the second factor is working together to achieve a common goal, and meaningful and purposive are ranked as the third factor. Meanwhile, the three factors with the lowest rankings, skills requirement, are ranked 19, the 20th place belongs to full facility, and the last place belongs to the sociable, enthusiastic, and friendly.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of eco-conscious transformational leadership and organizational culture on environmental outcomes in the context of East Java's small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) industry. It investigates the mediating factors of green human resource management (green HRM) and sustainable innovation. The research methodology employs an explanatory approach to understand the relationships among these variables. The study's target population consists of all registered SMEs in East Java, as recorded by the Provincial Office of Cooperatives and SMEs. These entities include various legal statuses in terms of ownership (PT/CV/UD/Foundation), and there are a total of 862,450 business entities. To determine an appropriate sample size, the study utilizes Slovin's formula, resulting in a sample size of 400 entities. The research adopts a stratified cluster random sampling method for data collection and employs structural equation modeling (SEM) for data analysis. The findings of the study suggest that eco-conscious transformative leadership has a positive impact on green HRM, green innovation, and environmental outcomes. Similarly, organizational culture was found to influence green HRM and green innovation. Additionally, both green HRM and green innovation were positively associated with environmental performance. However, the relationship between organizational culture and environmental performance was found to be insignificant.

Abstract

Although financial inclusion practices have been widely applied by Islamic banking institutions, the testing of factors affecting Islamic financial inclusion (IFI) is still limited. This study analyses the connections between financial literacy, social philanthropy functions, and IFI. The study sample includes 56 Islamic banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2015 to 2021 period. This study measures Islamic corporate social responsibility (CSR) as viewed based on two approaches: financial literacy and social philanthropy functions. Multivariate regression analyses are utilised for analysing the data and testing the hypotheses. The results showcase that financial literacy does not positively influence financial inclusion; by contrast, social philanthropy has both a positive and significant effect on financial inclusion. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing insights into the influence of Islamic CSR as a means of encouraging IFI. The managerial implications of these results may guide decision-makers, particularly governments and financial institutions when drafting regulations to consider the overall effectiveness of Islamic CSR in promoting improved Islamic financial literacy and inclusiveness within Indonesia.

Abstract

Family small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represent a peculiar context for investigating digitalization since the vital link between the family and the business turns into distinctive approaches to innovation relative to nonfamily firms. Although extant literature acknowledges that all firms are increasingly required to respond to the challenges of the digital economy, the current knowledge about how family SMEs pursue digital innovation and how it impacts the organization is still limited. Similarly, understanding if and how succession plays a role in innovation and digital change development in family firms is a topic that needs further investigation. A qualitative study of six Italian family SMEs currently undergoing their digitalization journeys detected three types of digitalization (molt, turmoil, and clear-cut) that are deeply connected with different succession experiences, different levels of business family support, and various levels of strategic planning. The findings highlight the central role of succession and intergenerational dialogue in fostering digitalization in family firms. The paper contributes to the general literature about digital innovation in family SMEs and mainly speaks to that literature focused on the relationship between technological innovation and succession, offering new and deeper insights into the relationship between the family, the person who is in charge of managing digitalization in these firms and the whole digitalization process. Contributions to practice are also outlined: the three types of digitalization represent a valuable tool to sustain consultants and family firms' owners in digitalizing these organizations.

Abstract

This paper addresses how managers react to attainment discrepancies in their firms' performance. Scholars have generally argued that only when performance drops below a predetermined aspiration level firms present a search and change behavior in order to fix this dropping performance. In particular, prior research assumes that organizations compare their performance against preset aspiration levels proceeding from their peers' performance or their own performance in prior years when determining the urgency of engaging in organizational change. However, empirical evidence on this issue is ambiguous and inconclusive. We tackle this puzzle by studying the executives' complacency (or cognitive interpretations) with objective results of the firm to determine when the company will decide to change and the magnitude of those changes. Using a sample of 137 medium-sized firms, we do find that the combination of objective results with the managerial perception of them, allows us to obtain a better understanding of the performance feedback literature. Thus, organizational change will be (only) enhanced in front of low managerial levels of complacency with organizational results, disregarding the sign of the objective performance feedback obtained by the firm. Moreover, in our research, we go one step further in analyzing several executives' characteristics that may affect this managerial complacency.
